GATE – Registration, Eligibility, Pattern, Score

GATE Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted for PG Admission to Engineering/Technology/Architecture and Science Programmes offered b IITs, NITs and other and GATE is conducted by jointly by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven IITs. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is national Level Examination which is Qualifying Exam for Admission to M.Tech., M.E. and direct Phd. GATE Scores also used for Public Section Unit for Recruitment so applicants can apply for PSU Recruitment through GATE Score. Candidates can apply for PSU Recruitment through GATE. There are many PSU such as BHEL, GAIL, NHPC, BSNL and DMRC which uses GATE Score for Recruitment.

GATE is conducted on 23 subjects as Online Computer Based Test (CBT). A candidate can appear only in ANY ONE paper of the GATE examination. Candidates have to register and fill the application via ONLINE mode ONLY at GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). The link will be made available on GATE Website

The Application of GATE Exam will be available in September Month every year online mode through GOAPS Enrolments ID and password at official Website. Applicants need to fill Personal Information, Academic Detail, Photograph and Signature with left thumb Impression with document.

GATE Eligibility –

To Apply GATE Candidates must be Indian or from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia and United Arab Emirates (U.A.E)

Final Year Students are also eligible to apply.

International candidates should have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Master’s degree in Science in relevant Subjects.

GATE Exam Pattern

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Exam is conducted in online Mode having Objective type Question and Eight Section. The online examination paper will contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed in by the candidate using the virtual keypad. Rest of the questions will be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type. The Candidates will use ONLY an on-screen virtual calculator provided for the examination.

GATE Score

After the evaluation of the answers, the actual (raw) marks obtained by a candidate will be considered for computing the GATE Score. For multi-session papers (subjects), raw marks obtained by the candidates in different sessions will be converted to Normalized marks for that particular subject. Thus, raw marks (for single session papers) or normalized marks (for multi-session papers) will be used for computing the GATE Score based on the qualifying marks.
